Maribeth Gandy Coleman is a Regent's Researcher and Director of Research for the Institute of People and Technology at Georgia Tech. She received a B.S. in Computer Engineering as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech. In her 20+ as a research faculty member her work has been focused on the intersection of technology for mobile/wearable computing, augmented reality, human computer interaction, assistive technology, and gaming. She is a computer scientist focused on developing novel and scientifically validated systems at the “human technology frontier” designed for purposes such as training, rehabilitation, and cognitive training, utilizing cutting-edge technology such as augmented and virtual reality. For example, she lead an initiative (funded by National Science Foundation, Dept of Education, and ACT Inc.) to research the design of games for cognitive training and assessment for older adults, persons with disabilities, and K-12 students. She also previously led a project funded by Georgia Tech’s Health Systems Institute to develop home-based computer games for stroke rehabilitation. In her AR research, she is interested in advancing AR as a new medium by focusing on authoring, evaluation, and deployment. She was the lead architect on a large open source software project called the Designer’s Augmented Reality Toolkit (DART), which had thousands of users and was used to create a variety of large-scale AR systems. She was also co-PI on an NSF grant focused on the development of presence metrics for measuring engagement in AR environments using qualitative and quantitative data. She has also applied AR technologies to a STEM education project for teens, explored how AR interfaces can enhance user abilities during maintenance and repair tasks, and is currently studying the use AR and mobile technologies to make Internet of Things environments more approachable and useful to communities. In her Director role she is responsible for organizational leadership & strategic planning, fundraising, convening & managing diverse teams, industry/academic partnerships, and translational work including commercialization of intellectual property.

Russ Clark is the director of sustainability and a senior research scientist in Georgia Tech's Institute for People and Technology, who engages hundreds of students each semester in mobile development, networking, and the Internet of Things. He is the CEAR Hub lead principal investigator. He emphasizes innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry involvement in student projects and application development. He was formerly the co-director of the Georgia Tech Research Network Operations Center (GT-RNOC), which supported research efforts across campus, and principal leader of the Convergence Innovation Competition, which pairs students and industry sponsors on novel projects. He has played a leadership role in the NSF GENI project, leading both the GT campus trials efforts as well as the GENI@SoX regional deployment and the Software-Defined Exchange (SDX). Russ is active in the startup community, including roles with the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps program and as a principle with Empire Technologies during its acquisition by Concord Communications.

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech. I received my Ph.D. and B.S. degrees in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, and held positions as a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Media Lab and as Assistant Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute prior to joining Georgia Tech. I direct the Robot Autonomy and Interactive Learning (RAIL) lab, where we work on developing robots that are able to effectively operate in human environments. My research interests span robotics and artificial intelligence, including semantic reasoning, adjustable autonomy, human computation and cloud robotics. Sudheer Chava, Ph.D, is an associate director of the Institute for Information Security & Privacy for the area of risk management, and professor of finance at Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also serves as finance area coordinator at Scheller and as the director of the nationally top 10 ranked Master of Science in Quantitative and Computational Finance (QCF) program at Georgia Tech (a joint program by the School of Mathematics, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Scheller).  Dr. Chava has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate, masters, MBA and Ph.D. levels, including derivatives, risk management, valuation, credit risk, financial technology ("fintech"), and management of financial institutions. He also has taught both theoretical and empirical finance doctoral courses and is a faculty advisor to multiple doctoral students. Dr. Chava's main research interests are risk management, credit risk and financial institutions. He has extensively published on these topics in the leading finance journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Management Science. His research won a Ross Award for the best paper published in Finance Research Letters in 2008, was a finalist for the Brattle Prize for the best paper published in Journal of Finance in 2008, and was nominated for the Goldman Sachs Award for the best paper for published in Review of Finance during 2004.  Dr. Chava is the recipient of multiple external research grants such as FDIC-CFR Fellowship, Morgan Stanley Research grant, Financial Service Exchange Research grant, Q-group Research Award (2010, 2012) and GARP Research Award. He has presented his research at finance conferences such as AFA, WFA, EFA, Federal Reserve Banks and at many universities in the United States and abroad. Chava received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 2003. Prior to that he earned an MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore, an undergraduate degree in Computer Science Engineering, and worked as a fixed-income analyst at a leading investment bank in India. In 2014, he was awarded the Linda and Lloyd L. Byars Award for faculty research excellence at Georgia Tech and he has also received multiple research awards and fellowships at Texas A&M University.

Duen Horng "Polo" Chau, Ph.D., is a professor at Georgia Tech’s School of Computational Science and Engineering, and an Associate Director of the MS Analytics program. He holds a Ph.D. and Master's in Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University, where his doctoral thesis won CMU’s Computer Science Dissertation Award, Honorable Mention. Chau has received faculty awards from Google, Yahoo, and LexisNexis. He also received the Raytheon Faculty Fellowship, Edenfield Faculty Fellowship, Outstanding Junior Faculty Award. He is the only two-time Symantec fellow and an award-winning designer. Chau’s research lab  -- the Polo Club of Data Science -- bridges data mining and HCI to solve large-scale, real-world problems by developing scalable, interactive, and interpretable tools for big data analytics. The group's "Polonium" malware detection technology (patented with Symantec) protects 120 million people worldwide. Its auction fraud detection research was widely covered by media, and its fake-review-detection research received the “Best Student Paper” award at the 2014 SIAM Data Mining Conference. Other work has addressed content spam, insider trading, and unauthorized mobile device access. He co-organized the IDEA workshop series at KDD that facilitate cross-pollination across HCI and data mining. He served as general chair for ACM IUI 2015 and was a steering committee member of the conference.

Marcia Chandler has been with Georgia Tech for more than 15 years, with assignments in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Tennenbaum Institute before joining IPaT. Her responsibilities include purchasing and p-card administration, travel and expense processing, student hiring and HR actions, and asset management. She also assists researchers with Georgia Tech’s rigorous research faculty promotions process and coordinates IPaT Research faculty promotions peer review committee activities. Finally, she compiles and edits the IPaT Weekly Highlights. A native of Florida, Marcia holds a master’s degree in public administration from Kennesaw State University, a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University, and she is a 20+-year member of the Grammy award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

Dr. Catrambone's research interests include: 

• Creating examples to help learners form meaningful and generalizable solution procedures. I and the students in my lab have explored this issue in domains ranging from probability and physics to ballet. 
• The use of task analysis techniques for identifying what a person needs to learn in order to solve problems or carry out procedures in some domain. 
• Using information from task analyses to guide the construction of teaching and training materials including computer-based (multimedia) instructional environments. 
• Exploring technology such as animations and embodied conversational agents (ECAs) for improving interfaces and helping people learn and carry out tasks more easily.
