Sam Coogan received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2015, he was a postdoctoral research engineer at Sensys Networks, Inc., and in 2012 he spent time at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. Before joining Georgia Tech in 2017, he was an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering department at UCLA from 2015–2017. His awards and recognitions include the 2020 Donald P Eckman Award from the American Automatic Control Council recognizing "an outstanding young engineer in the field of automatic control", a Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 2019, a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation in 2018, and the Outstanding paper award for the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems in 2017.

Thomas Conte

Tom Conte holds a joint appointment in the Schools of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is the founding director of the Center for Research into Novel Computing Hierarchies (CRNCH). His research is in the areas of computer architecture and compiler optimization, with emphasis on manycore architectures, microprocessor architectures, back-end compiler code generation, architectural performance evaluation and embedded computer system architectures.

Morris Cohen

Morris Cohen

Morris Cohen received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2003 and 2010, respectively, and served as a research scientist until August 2013. From September 2012 until August 2013, Dr. Cohen was appointed as AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation. 

In Fall 2013, he joined the faculty in the School of ECE. He is a winner of the NSF CAREER Award in 2017, the ONR Young Investigator Award in 2015, and was chosen for the Santimay Basu Prize in 2014, an award given once per 3 years to an under-35 scientist by the International Union of Radio Science (URSI). 

Dr. Cohen is interested in the natural electricity of the Earth, including lightning, the electrically charged upper atmosphere, and the radiation-filled space environment. He uses radio waves at low frequencies measured all around the world to understand them, and develops resulting practical applications. His group also works on novel techniques to generate low frequency waves with nonconventional electrically-short antennas. He is an author of more than 60 journal publications. He employs a “flipped classroom” model in some of his courses to make the experience more active and engaging. 

He enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling the world for work and play with his family.

David S. Citrin

David S. Citrin

Professor Citrin earned a B.A. from Williams College (1985) and a M.S. (1987) and a Ph.D. (1991) from the University of Illinois, all in physics, where his dissertation was on the optical properties of semiconductor quantum wires. Subsequently, he was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany (1992-1993) and Center Fellow at the Center for Ultrafast Optical Science at the University of Michigan (1993-1995). Dr. Citrin was an assistant professor of physics and materials science at Washington State University (1995 to 2001).

Professor Citrin joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 2001 where his work focuses on terahertz technology and nanotechnology. He is a recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and of a Friedrich Bessel Award from the Alexander Von Humboldt Stiftung. In addition, he is Project Coordinator on Nonlinear Optics and Dynamics at Georgia Tech-CNRS UMI 2958 located at Georgia Tech-Lorraine. Professor Citrin’s research in terahertz imaging is featured in the Georgia Tech press release, ”Imaging Technique Unlocks the Secrets of 17th Century Artists"; a list of some media placements from the press release may be found at http://photonics.georgiatech-metz.fr/node/33.

Abhijit Chatterjee

Abhijit Chatterjee

Abhijit Chatterjee is a professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech and a Fellow of the IEEE. He received his Ph.D in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1990. Chatterjee received the NSF Research Initiation Award in 1993 and the NSF CAREER Award in 1995. He has received six Best Paper Awards and three Best Paper Award nominations. His work on self-healing chips was featured as one of General Electric 's key technical achievements in 1992 and was cited by the Wall Street Journal. In 1995, he was named a Collaborating Partner in NASA's New Millennium project. In 1996, he received the Outstanding Faculty for Research Award from the Georgia Tech Packaging Research Center, and in 2000, he received the Outstanding Faculty for Technology Transfer Award, also given by the Packaging Research Center. In 2007, his group received the Margarida Jacome Award for work on VIZOR: Virtually Zero Margin Adaptive RF from the Berkeley Gigascale Research Center (GSRC). Chatterjee has authored over 400 papers in refereed journals and meetings and has 20 patents. He is a co-founder of Ardext Technologies Inc., a mixed-signal test solutions company and served as chairman and chief scientist from 2000-2002. He is currently directing research in mixed-signal/RF design and test funded by NSF, SRC, MARCO-DARPA, and industry, and he served as chair of the VLSI Technical Interest Group at Georgia Tech from 2010-2012. He co-leads the Samsung Center of Excellence in High-Speed Test, established at Georgia Tech in 2011.

Wenshan Cai

Wenshan Cai joined the faculty of the Georgia Institute of Technology in January 2012 as an associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a joint appointment in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials at Stanford University. His scientific research is in the area of nanophotonic materials and devices, in which he has made a major impact on the evolving field of plasmonics and metamaterials. Cai has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and the total citations of his recent papers have reached approxIMaTely 10,000 within the past 10 years. He authored the book, Optical Metamaterials: Fundamentals and Applications, which is used as a textbook or a major reference at many universities around the world. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tsinghua University in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2008, all in electrical/electronic engineering. Cai is the recipient of several national and international distinctions, including the OSA/SPIE Joseph W. Goodman Book Writing Award (2014), the CooperVision Science & Technology Award (2016), and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2017).

Neuromodulation of peripheral nerve activity real-time control methods applied to electrophysiology measurements Autonomic modulation of visceral organs. Our laboratory combines engineering and neuroscience to tackle real-world problems. Doug Blough

Doug Blough, Ph.D., is a professor in the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering. After living in Japan for four years and graduating from the American School in Japan, Blough attended the Johns Hopkins University where he received the B.S.E.E. degree and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science in 1984, 1986, and 1988, respectively. From 1988 to 1999, he was first assistant and then associate professor at the University of California at Irvine, where he developed a research program focusing on the design of dependable computing systems at all levels from VLSI components to system architecture to software. In summer 1993, Blough worked on the design of a space-flight computer system under the auspices of a NASA/ASEE Faculty Fellowship and in spring 1996, he visited the Tokyo Institute of Technology on a fellowship from the Japan Society for Promotion of Science. In fall 1999, Blough joined Georgia Tech as a professor, where he continues research and education in computer systems design. He is the holder of 10 patents for wireless communications, bioinformatics and verifiable health records, identity management and other aspects of networking.
